Week 2: ADFL Round Up

The 2nd round of the 4th Abu Dhabi Football League at Zayed Sports City saw Falcons Academy continue their climb up the Group 2 table as they soared past Al Fuad Sports Club with a 4-1 win. The Falcons have already shown that they will be extremely hard to beat as their good form extended to the second week of play.

Over 50 goals were scored this week with Diplomatic and Governmental hitting double figures with a 10-0 victory over Al Hosn in Group 1. Khalfan Misbah and Mohamed Yusah both netting hat-tracks! It was University Sports Federation who went for the jugular against the Irish Wolfhounds as they stormed to a 6-0 win, Daniel Assamoua set the standard with a hat-trick to his name. It was an impressive display by Andrei Anita as he bagged a brace to lead Yalla Eat Healthy to 4-0 win over Kobetas. Some goalkeeping heroics from Avo Ohanian denied Kobetas their first goal of the campaign. It was goals galore in match 3 between D.Feras and Money Makers. Both teams started strongly but Money Makers were unable to cash in on an early goal advantage, eventually losing 7-5. D.Feras displayed their goal scoring prowess with Mohamed Hefawi and Zayed Jenoby both scoring hat-tricks, Khodor Khadam rounded things off for D.Feras after Elie Samia scored twice for Money Makers. Emirates ID registered back to back victories this time with a 3-1 win over Sultan Arif Khoury. Tensions were high in this tight fought game with 3 yellow cards being brandished, before Emirates ID ran out worthy winners with 3 well crafted goals finished off by Mohammed Bassam (2) and Khalid Ali. Sultan Arif Khoury could only manage a consolation goal through Mohamed Saled as Emirates ID edge closer to the top of the group.

Group 2 saw the first goalless draw of the tournament with ADIB and Abu Dhabi Graduates unable to break down each other's defensive walls. Zadco remain hot on the heels of the Falcons as they eventually ran out comfortable winners against Victory. Zayed Sports City continued their impressive run of form with a 4-1 win over a strong al-ittihad team. Al-ittihad were unfortunate not to score more goals but Zayed Sports City proved too much for them to handle with Omar Farah and Hamdan Zayed scoring 2 a piece. If Zayed Sports City continue this run of form they will be one of the front runners come the playoff stage. It was another tough day at the office for Mubadala as Shamar recorded their first win of the season with a 3-0 win.

The opening 2 weeks have served up some fantastic action and a flurry of goals. Round 3 is bound to throw up some more surprises as all teams are still finding their feet and looking to secure an early lead.
