Abu Dhabi Football League reaches Playoff Stage!

After 18 rounds of hard fought group stage matches in the 4th Abu Dhabi football league at Zayed Sports City, the top 8 teams going through to the playoffs has been determined. The Abu Dhabi Football League, held at Zayed Sports City has provided a hefty dose of weekly excitement since the opening day in November 2013. The ADFL is the only amateur football league sanctioned by the UAE FA and is sponsored by Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank, Wilson and Sport 360.

The season has dealt up a healthy share of competitive football so far and the excitement for the remaining teams has intensified with the prospect of becoming the ADFL Champions. Al Fuad Sport Club, who finished top of Group 2 look like strong contenders to win the tournament as their recent run of form has seen them notch 6 back to back wins and they have been undefeated since the beginning of 2014. They will fancy their chances against Sultan Arif Khoury who finished in 4th place over in Group 1 and whose recent run of form has seen them pick up a mixed bag of results.

Emirates ID consigned to 2nd place in Group 1 with only goal difference separating them from the top spot. They have been extremely consistent performers since the opening week of the league but will have to put up a strong defensive performance to stop Group 2 top scorers, Falcons Academy. Bader Al Bloshi has found the net 21 times during the group stages and the Falcons will be looking to get the ball to him at every goal scoring opportunity.

Diplomatic and Governmental managed to hold on to Group 1 top spot with a favorable goal difference, for which they have Hamid Othman to thank. Othman has struck 25 times in the 16 games he has played and helped catapult D&G into the playoffs. Victory have lost the form that saw them challenging for top spot earlier in their campaign, however they managed to grab 4th place in Group 2. Samer Yousef has 22 goals to his name for Victory and will be looking to extend his tally as Victory need to put in an impressive performance to get through to the Semi Finals.

It is going to be a very tight game in the match between University Sports Federation and Zayed Sports City, with both teams looking favorites to finish 1st at one stage in their respective groups. USF are undefeated in their last 6 games, with 5 wins back to back. Zayed Sports City certainly have the players to turn on the style, but will have their work cut out against USF who are arguably the most athletic team in the tournament.

All are invited to come and watch the games at Zayed Sports City and see who comes out on top and walks away with the AED 30,000 winners cheque.

The playoff matches are scheduled on Mondays and Tuesdays from 9.00p.m onwards and the final will take place on 15th April, at Zayed Sports City. The full schedule for the playoffs can be found by visiting the official website, www.adfl.ae.
